Deep Cut of the Day 7/15/09

Also a day late, but here's yesterday afternoon's Deep Cut:

The Verve – Lucky Man
Ask almost anyone to name a song from this band's 1997 album Urban Hymns and they response will be "Bittersweet Symphony." But though it's been largely forgotten about since, "Lucky Man" – the third single released from the album – was actually a fairly successful song. It was a top-20 hit in the United States.

Have your say about the Deep Cut of the Day – either post a comment here or send us an email.

Acoustic Roo Playlist 7/15/09

A day behind, but here's what you got yesterday:

R.E.M. – Pop Song 89
The acoustic version of this song originally appeared as the second track on the single that was released in 1989. You can also find it on the second disc of In Time: The Best of R.E.M., 1988-2003.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd – Blue on Black
This acoustic version comes off the Blue on Black single, which also includes the original album version and the shorter Road Mix.

Sting – Message in a Bottle
This comes from the compilation The Best of MTV Unplugged, volume 3.

Deep Cut of the Day 7/14/09

Today's Deep Cut of the Day:

Dave Matthews Band – Jimi Thing
From the 1994 album Under the Table and Dreaming. The song was released as the second single off the CD (after "What Would You Say," but before "Ants Marching" and "Satellite") but failed to move on the charts. Since then, however, it has become a popular song in live performances. If you like the song, check out the extended live version on the bonus disc to Dave Matthews' 2003 solo album Some Devil.

A couple of apologies: first, for not putting playlists up for the past few weeks' shows; second, for depriving everyone of the first hour of today's show.
